How We Select the Best IPL Betting Sites
Know the difference between a sweep and a pull but struggling to decide where to bet on the IPL? Don’t worry, we’re here to help.
At SBO.net, we take pride in helping fellow cricket fans find their ideal IPL betting site. Hundreds of online betting sites accept bets on the world’s premier T20 league, so we’ve spent hours reviewing them all to bring you an honest and updated list of the best all-rounders on this page.
We only give our seal of approval to betting sites that meet our high expectations. We review each site against a list of criteria that includes security measures, banking methods, reputation, and much more. If a site disappoints us in any one area, we simply cannot recommend it.
Here’s three of the many factors we consider when reviewing IPL betting sites:
Bonuses & Promotions
The Indian Premier League has become one of the biggest events on the annual sporting calendar. As a result, the best online betting sites roll out IPL-specific bonuses and promotions to attract new customers and reward those who have already signed up. These bonuses and promotions range from free bets and deposit bonuses to enhanced odds and cashback offers. There’s something for everyone.
IPL Betting Markets
The best cricket betting sites offer odds on everything from individual matches and the IPL winner to auction results and award winners. You will find over 100 betting markets for every IPL fixture, ranging from the winning team to whether a player will score a half-century or century. Other popular IPL betting markets include over/under runs, next method of dismissal and number of sixes.
Mobile Experience
The momentum of an innings can change with the swing of a bat, so it’s important that you can bet on IPL matches as quickly as possible. Our recommended sites offer user-friendly betting apps that you can download for free, and they don’t take up much storage space on your device. Alternatively, you can log in via your mobile web browser. Regardless of which option you choose, you can place a bet in seconds.
How Does the Indian Premier League Work?
The Indian Premier League is an annual T20 tournament that began in 2008. The biggest domestic cricket competition in the world typically takes place between March and May, lasting for two months.
Now that you know when the tournament takes place and where to place your bets, let’s discuss the exciting annual player auction and new format for IPL 2024.
IPL Auction
Before you bet on the IPL, it’s important to know which players will compete in each team. The annual player auction takes place approximately one month before the tournament begins. Squad rules affect the auction, as teams can only sign eight overseas players and a maximum of four can feature in the playing eleven. As a result, IPL teams compete in fierce bidding wars to sign the world’s best players.
Sam Curran became the most expensive player in IPL history during the 2023 auction. Punjab Kings outbid five other franchises to sign him for INR 18.50 crore.
This eye-watering sum surpassed the INR 16.25 crore Rajasthan Royals paid to secure the services of South African all-rounder Chris Morris during the 2021 auction.
The top IPL betting sites often provide odds on which team a player will join. If you follow the latest cricket news and know two teams are vying to sign a player, then you can check out the IPL auction betting odds and potentially profit from the player signing on the dotted line.
IPL 2024 Format
The Indian Premier League is a franchise-based tournament involving ten teams, each representing an Indian city. While previous seasons have been contested between eight teams, the addition of two new franchises in 2022 – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – has led to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reintroducing the old format used in 2011.
IPL 2023 returns to the competition’s original home and away format following four years of change due to the pandemic. The teams have been divided into two groups of five, with each team playing their own group once and the teams in the other group twice. This means each team will play a maximum of 14 matches during the league stage.
Group A | Group B |
---|---|
Mumbai Indians (MI) | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) |
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) |
Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) |
Delhi Capitals (DC) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) |
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) | Gujarat Titans (GT) |
At the end of the league stage, which boasts a total of 70 matches and provides plenty of IPL betting opportunities, the four teams with the most points qualify for the playoffs.
- Qualifier 1 – The teams ranked first and second in the group stage.
- Eliminator – The teams ranked third and fourth in the group stage.
- Qualifier 2 – The loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator.
- IPL 2024 Final – The winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2.
IPL 2024 Teams – An Overview of All 10 Franchises
The 10 teams set to compete in IPL 2024 are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Five other teams have competed in the IPL since its inception, but these franchises have since dissolved: Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Gujarat Lions.
Here’s a quick overview of the ten contenders for IPL 2024:
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are four-time IPL winners (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021). CSK play their home matches at the 50,000-capacity MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where thousands of fans known as the ‘Yellow Army’ create a deafening atmosphere for visiting teams. Under the stewardship of Indian legend MS Dhoni, Chennai have battled their way to eleven playoff appearances and nine finals.
Ravindra Jadeja took over as captain for IPL 2022 but stepped down from the position after just eight games in charge. Although Robin Uthappa and Dwayne Bravo have both retired, Dhoni’s return as captain and the addition of Ben Stokes means CSK are one of the favourites to win this year’s IPL.
Star Players: MS Dhoni, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Kyle Jamieson
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals
Known as the Delhi Daredevils until they revealed their new identity in 2019, the Delhi Capitals (DC) seem to get stronger each year. The Capitals reached the playoffs in 2019 for the first time in seven years before exceeding expectations by reaching the IPL Final in 2020, losing by five wickets to the Mumbai Indians. In 2021, KKR’s Rahul Tripathi smashed a six in the penultimate ball to deny the Capitals another final appearance and they missed the playoffs by two points in 2022.
Will 2023 be the year that the Delhi Capitals finally win the IPL? Betting sites are rightly pricing the Capitals as a team that can win the tournament. The top order of Shaw, Warner and Pant provides the perfect mix of right and left-handers, while Mustafizur Rahman and Kuldeep Yadav always frustrate batsmen and take wickets.
Star Players: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav
Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans
Ahmedabad-based Gujarat Titans (GT) became the first team to win the IPL in their first season last year. A total of 22 companies declared an interest in purchasing the rights to operate the Ahmedabad franchise, with CVC Capital Partners, a British private equity and investment advisory firm, posting the winning bid of Rs 5,625 crore. GT play their home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.
They drafted former Mumbai Indians star Hardik Pandya as their captain ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, and they also made headlines by snapping up right-arm leg spinner Rashid Khan and right-handed opening batsman Shubman Gill. Although they have lost Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2023, few would be surprised if the Titans claim back-to-back titles.
Star Players: Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami
Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings
Formerly known as Kings XI Punjab, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are owned by three Indian businesspeople and Preity Zinta, a Bollywood star. These famous faces join thousands of fans inside the 26,000-capacity PCA Stadium in Mohali, where Punjab supporters have experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows since the team’s founding in 2008.
Punjab finished third in the inaugural IPL season, but their only other appearance in the playoffs came as runners-up in the 2014 season. A fifth-place finish has been their best performance since then. Pressure will be on captain Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone to hit enough runs for Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar to defend.
Star Players: Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders
Owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have an enormous fan base. The two-time IPL champions play their home matches at Eden Gardens, the oldest and second-largest cricket stadium in India. Following their first appearance in the playoffs in 2011, KKR became IPL champions in 2012 and won the title again in 2014.
Pat Cummins, Sam Billings, Mohammad Nabi and Ajinkya Rahane top a list of high-profile releases. Pressure will be on new signings Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to hit the ground running. KRR certainly have the bowlers to win IPL 2023, with Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee lining up alongside Cummins, but they’ll need all-rounders Andre Russell and Sunil Narine to be on top form to go all the way.
Star Players: Andre Russell, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav
Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) joined the Gujarat Titans (GT) as the two new franchises in the 15th edition of the IPL, falling to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the semi-finals. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group, who owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise between 2016 and 2017, won the rights to operate the Lucknow franchise with a bid of Rs 7,090 crore.
LSG play their home matches at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. They are captained by former Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul. Other star players include wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, and leg spin bowler Ravi Bishnoi. It’s a star-filled squad, and the latest IPL betting odds suggest LSG stand a strong chance of making the playoffs.
Star Players: KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians (MI) have been in the Indian Premier League since day one. Despite struggling in the early years, Mumbai have become the most successful team in IPL history. The five-time champions (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) play their home matches at the 33,108-capacity Wankhede Stadium.
The best IPL betting sites rightly make Mumbai favourites to win a sixth title. MI will be determined to bounce back after a bitterly disappointing bottom-place finish in last year’s IPL. Kieron Pollard ended his 13-year IPL playing career ahead of this year’s auction but remains an integral part of the team as batting coach. Pressure will be on Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to fire MI to their sixth title.
Star Players: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Jofra Archer
Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals
Founded in 2008 as one of the first IPL franchises, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) play their home matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Royals won the inaugural edition of the IPL by defeating the Chennai Super Kings in a pulsating match that went down to the last ball.
Although IPL betting sites always price the Royals as outsiders, there is no shortage of talent in their squad. The loss of Ben Stokes is softened by the retention of Jos Buttler and Trent Boult and the additions of Jason Holder and Adam Zampa. However, the Royals will have to stamp out inconsistent performances to have any chance of winning IPL 2023.
Star Players: Jos Buttler, Trent Boult, Jason Holder, Adam Zampa
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Known as the underachievers of the IPL, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) play their home matches at the 35,000-seater M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Although RCB have never won the IPL, they have finished runners-up on three occasions (2009, 2011, 2016). Will 2023 be the year they finally win?
Pressure will be on Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis to pile on the runs at the top of the order, as a rather weak middle order has been the downfall for RCB in recent seasons. If the middle order can contribute with the bat and score more runs than previous seasons, we wouldn’t bet against the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Akash Deep knocking over wickets and helping RCB reach the playoffs once more.
Star Players: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) play at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in front of the ‘Orange Army’. The Sunrisers’ first appearance in the IPL came in 2013. After a few disappointing seasons, SRH won IPL 2016 and made the playoffs every year until 2021.
The latest IPL 2023 betting odds reflect the consistency of the Sunrisers, and we expect them to challenge the MI, CSK and GT for the title. New signings Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal will be key to scoring enough runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Washington Sundar almost seem to strike at will. We don’t expect SRH to have enough firepower to outscore teams in this year’s IPL.
Star Players: Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Washington Sundar
Bet on Indian Premier League Award Winners
Besides betting on specific fixtures, which teams will reach the playoffs and the winning team, you can also bet on IPL award winners. Organisers present awards to standout players during the post-match presentation ceremony that takes place following the IPL final.
With so many great cricketers competing in the IPL, you can lock in great odds before the tournament begins. IPL betting odds for award winners swing as the tournament progresses, with star performers cementing their positions at the top of leaderboards and becoming hot favourites to win an award.
The top IPL betting sites accept bets on the winners of the following awards:
Orange Cap
Orange Cap
Organisers present the Orange Cap to the batsman who scores the most runs during an IPL season. It’s worn by the batsman with the most runs while fielding during the tournament. This fuels their hunger to score even more runs, as they don’t want a fellow batsman getting the honour of wearing it.
Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap award in 2016, scoring a record 973 runs in 16 matches. KL Rahul hit 670 runs in 14 matches in 2020, while Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 635 runs in 16 matches to win the Orange Cap in 2021 and Jos Buttler hit 863 runs in 17 matches during IPL 2022.
Favourites to win the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 include heavy hitters such as Jos Buttler. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma.
Purple Cap
Purple Cap
The Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler who takes the most wickets during an IPL season. The bowler who tops the wicket leaderboard wears the Purple Cap while fielding, meaning the cap can exchange hands many times during the season. If two or more bowlers take the same number of wickets, the bowler with the best economy rate receives the Purple Cap.
Dwayne Brave holds the record for most wickets in an IPL season, taking 32 in 18 matches in 2013. South African Kagiso Rabada came close to matching this record with 30 wickets in 2020, while RCB’s Harshal Patel equalled the record in 2021.
Umesh Yadav, Rahul Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal are strong favourites to win this year’s Purple Cap, according to the latest IPL 2023 betting odds.
Maximum Sixes Award
Maximum Sixes Award
As the title suggests, organisers present this prestigious award to the batsman who hits the most sixes in the IPL season. Jamaican Chris Gayle holds four of the top five positions in the record books, with his most impressive performance being 59 sixes in 15 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012.
KKR’s Andre Russell is second on the list with 52 sixes in 14 matches, but he has been injury-prone in recent seasons. Mumbai’s Ishan Kishan won the award in 2020, hitting 30 sixes in 13 matches. KL Rahul smashed 30 sixes to win the award in 2021, while Jos Buttler notched 45 in 16 matches in 2022.
The best IPL betting sites expect Jos Buttler, KL Rahul and Andre Russell to be among the biggest hitters in IPL 2023.
Most Valuable Player
Most Valuable Player
Known as the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award until the 2012 season, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is presented to the season’s best performer. Rather than leave this decision in the hands of commentators or fans, the IPL introduced a points system for a fair result. A dot ball is worth 1 point; a catch, stumping, or four is worth 2.5 points; and every wicket or six is worth 3.5 points.
Andre Russell and Shane Watson have both won the prestigious award twice. Jofra Archer won the award for IPL 2020 with 305 points. Harshal Patel scooped the award with 264.5 points in 2021, while Jos Buttler was crowned MVP in IPL 2022.
Russel may be worth backing because of the number of wickets he takes and the runs he scores, but can he stay fit? We’re backing Jos Buttler to retain the crown, and we also feel Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes are worth backing at favourable IPL betting odds.
Emerging Player of the Year
Emerging Player of the Year
The best Indian Premier League betting sites also accept bets on the Emerging Player of the Year. The IPL has renamed this award several times, with previous titles including “Best Under-23 Player” and “Rising Star of the Year”.
Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman became the only non-Indian to win this award in 2016, so we suggest sticking to promising Indian players if you bet on this IPL award. Devdutt Padikkal won the 2020 award after scoring 473 runs in 15 matches in his debut season. CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad won the award in 2021, with his 635 runs helping the Super Kings claim their fourth IPL title, and Umran Malik scooped the award in 2022.
The latest IPL betting odds suggest Tilak Varma and Mohsin Khan are players to watch this season.
